Autumn Ascensions, Black Gold & Heavy Lumber Flood Diamond Dynasty with Twelve Elite Cards

By DiamondOps · · 14 min read

On this page

Three Topps Update Series programs drop a dozen ninety-nine overalls — plus a Bobby Witt Jr. pack chase — giving every roster builder something to hunt.

The structure across all three programs is identical: five XP tasks, a modest total XP ceiling, and four card rewards unlocked at regular intervals, with packs sprinkled throughout as bonus incentives. Nothing about the grind is punishing — this is a player-friendly release that rewards consistent play rather than marathon sessions.

Layered on top of the program rewards is a Bobby Witt Jr. card hidden inside The Show Packs, obtainable both through the shop and by completing all three programs, which together offer a sizeable stack of packs. That dual acquisition path makes completing everything an even more attractive proposition for collectors chasing the full Topps Update roster.

2026 Topps Update Series Baseball - Autumn Ascensions

Autumn Ascensions is the prospect-and-rising-star showcase of the trio, and its reward ladder is front-loaded with talent that ranges from toolsy athletes to balanced two-way shortstops. The early unlock is a starting pitcher built almost entirely around elite breaking-ball grades, while the second card brings a Cardinals second baseman with plus contact on both sides of the plate, solid power, and near-perfect fielding — a genuine upgrade for anyone who has been hunting a reliable middle infielder.

The third reward is where Autumn Ascensions really shines. A Pirates shortstop with maxed-out left-handed contact, elite speed, and strong vision gives speedster-lineup builders a genuine weapon, and his clutch rating is eye-catching for high-leverage situations. The program-capping reward is a Mariners center fielder who pairs that same top-tier speed with balanced contact and power from both sides — a five-tool threat who slots in as a defensive anchor and lineup centerpiece at the same time.

Given the low total XP required and the five-task structure, Autumn Ascensions is one of the most efficient value propositions in recent memory. Even if only one of the four cards fits your squad, the pack rewards along the way sweeten the deal considerably, and the Bobby Witt Jr. pack count this program contributes makes it worth clearing regardless of roster needs.

2026 Topps Update Series Baseball - Black Gold

The mid-program reward is Samuel Basallo at catcher, and he is the headliner of the whole program in terms of raw offensive upside. His right-handed power is as high as any hitter in this drop, and he pairs it with excellent vision, strong discipline, and a clutch rating that makes him dangerous when the game is on the line. The lack of foot speed is expected from the position, and his fielding is serviceable if not elite — but you are not putting Basallo behind the dish for his glove. He is an immediate anchor at one of the hardest positions to fill at the top of the market.

Black Gold closes with Paul Skenes, and there is not much nuance needed: every pitching grade is at the absolute maximum. His stamina is exceptional, his strikeout rates against both sides of the plate are elite, and the Break Outlier quirk amplifies what is already a terrifying arsenal. Black Gold alone could justify the grind for rotation builders, but the fact that it also delivers a premium catcher and two other viable contributors makes it arguably the strongest program of the three in terms of competitive impact.

2026 Topps Update Series Baseball - Heavy Lumber

Heavy Lumber does exactly what its name promises: four cards built around imposing bats, with particular strength from the left side of the plate. The program opens with a Giants first baseman who features maxed-out left-handed contact and serious power in both directions — a classic left-hand masher who rakes against right-handed pitching and holds his own against southpaws too. The second reward adds a Reds first baseman with nearly identical power grades but more balanced contact, making him a plug-and-play option for any lineup configuration.

Honus Wagner arrives at the midpoint and immediately demands attention. His contact grades from both sides of the plate sit at the absolute ceiling, his speed is elite for a shortstop, and his vision is outstanding. He trades raw power for near-perfect contact precision and baserunning, creating a unique offensive profile that fits best in lineups that prioritize getting on base and moving runners over relying on the long ball. Wagner at shortstop with elite speed and maxed contact is a nightmare matchup at any difficulty.

Tony Gwynn caps the program and continues the contact-perfection theme. Both his right- and left-handed contact grades are maxed, his vision is flawless, his clutch is at the ceiling, and his speed is still very useful for a corner outfielder. The tradeoff is modest power — Gwynn hits line drives, not home runs — but his quirk set is deep and his OpScore improves dramatically at higher difficulty settings, suggesting he is especially lethal for players who compete at the game's toughest levels. Heavy Lumber as a whole is mandatory for contact-style lineup builders.

Julio Rodríguez

Julio Rodríguez

Julio Rodríguez — DiamondOps attribute card

DiamondOps rating (OpScore): All-Star 108.4 · Hall of Fame 108 · Legend 107.3
Quirks: Road Warrior, First-Pitch Hitter, Dead Red, Unfazed, Situational Hitter, Day Player

Julio Rodríguez is the complete center fielder Diamond Dynasty builders have been waiting for in this series. His contact grades are strong from both sides, his power is legitimate rather than cosmetic, and his top-tier speed makes him a threat on the basepaths and a vacuum in center field. His vision and clutch ratings round out an offensive profile that performs across all game modes, and his quirk list — including Road Warrior and Situational Hitter — means he produces in both home and away environments and steps up when the lineup needs a big hit.

The Autumn Ascensions program asks for very little in exchange for this card, and Rodríguez delivers the kind of multi-tool performance that justifies clearing that entire program on its own. If you need a true center fielder who can hit, run, and field without forcing awkward roster compromises, this is the reward to prioritize.

Paul Skenes

Paul Skenes

Paul Skenes — DiamondOps attribute card

DiamondOps rating (OpScore): All-Star 99.7 · Hall of Fame 101.3 · Legend 102.1
Quirks: Road Warrior, Day Player, Break Outlier

His OpScore climbs at higher difficulty settings, which fits the profile of an ace who excels when the game punishes mistakes — Skenes simply does not make mistakes. For anyone who anchors their rotation around one dominant arm and builds the rest of the squad around him, this card is the gold standard unlock of the entire Topps Update Series drop.

Tony Gwynn

Tony Gwynn

Tony Gwynn — DiamondOps attribute card

DiamondOps rating (OpScore): All-Star 104.4 · Hall of Fame 114.8 · Legend 118.6
Quirks: Homebody, First-Pitch Hitter, Dead Red, Breaking Ball Hitter, Fighter, Bad Ball Hitter, Situational Hitter, Night Player

Tony Gwynn's card is a contact purist's dream made real in Diamond Dynasty. Both contact grades sit at the absolute ceiling, vision is perfect, and clutch matches that peak — meaning Gwynn does not just make contact, he does it when the pressure is highest. His speed keeps him relevant on the basepaths and gives him enough range in right field to be a passable defender. The power grades are modest, so he is not a home-run threat, but his quirk collection is the deepest in this entire drop, mixing breaking-ball expertise, bad-ball hitting, and a Fighter tag that keeps his at-bats alive deep into counts.

Gwynn's OpScore rises significantly at higher difficulty settings, which makes him uniquely valuable for players who compete at Legend or Hall of Fame. At those levels, where plate discipline and contact precision separate wins from losses, a hitter with maxed contact and vision becomes disproportionately dominant. He is the final reward in Heavy Lumber, and he is absolutely worth completing that program to earn him.

Trey Yesavage

Trey Yesavage

Trey Yesavage — DiamondOps attribute card

DiamondOps rating (OpScore): All-Star 92 · Hall of Fame 95.5 · Legend 97.8
Quirks: Road Warrior, Stopper, Day Player

The Stopper quirk suggests he thrives in must-win situations, and Road Warrior means he performs away from home as well as he does anywhere else. He slots well as a second or third starter rather than an ace, complementing a power arm at the top of the rotation by offering a distinct style that keeps opposing lineups off balance across back-to-back games.

JJ Wetherholt

JJ Wetherholt

JJ Wetherholt — DiamondOps attribute card

DiamondOps rating (OpScore): All-Star 106 · Hall of Fame 107.6 · Legend 107.7
Quirks: Road Warrior, First-Pitch Hitter, Dead Red, Breaking Ball Hitter, Situational Hitter, Day Player

JJ Wetherholt is one of the most well-rounded second basemen available in this release. His right-handed contact is strong, his power grades are nearly identical from both sides of the plate, and his discipline and vision make him patient enough to work counts without being passive. The fielding grade at second base is excellent, so he is not a liability on defense the way some offense-first middle infielders can be.

What stands out most on Wetherholt's card is his clutch rating, which is exceptional — suggesting he elevates in big moments rather than disappearing. His quirk list leans heavily toward handling fastballs and hard stuff, which is a useful trait in a game mode where high-velocity pitching dominates. He is not a flashy card, but he is a reliable, high-floor contributor who improves every lineup he enters.

Konnor Griffin

Konnor Griffin

Konnor Griffin — DiamondOps attribute card

DiamondOps rating (OpScore): All-Star 105.1 · Hall of Fame 110.5 · Legend 111.7
Quirks: Homebody, First-Pitch Hitter, Dead Red, Bad Ball Hitter, Night Player

Konnor Griffin gives speedster lineups an elite shortstop option with genuine offensive depth behind the raw athleticism. His left-handed contact grades out at the absolute ceiling, and even from the right side his contact is well above average. The top-tier speed and baserunning threat he represents force opposing defenses to account for him on every at-bat. His clutch rating is outstanding, meaning his speed becomes most dangerous exactly when you need it — late in tight games.

The one honest limitation is fielding, which grades out below the defensive standard you might expect from the shortstop position at this level. Griffin is clearly being used more as an offensive weapon than a defensive cornerstone, and lineups that prioritize speed and on-base percentage will get maximum value from him by hiding any defensive shortcomings with good positioning habits.

Samuel Basallo

Samuel Basallo

Samuel Basallo — DiamondOps attribute card

DiamondOps rating (OpScore): All-Star 114.3 · Hall of Fame 112.3 · Legend 110.6
Quirks: Homebody, First-Pitch Hitter, Breaking Ball Hitter, Situational Hitter, Day Player

Samuel Basallo is the power-hitting catcher Diamond Dynasty lineups have long needed at the top end of the market. His right-handed power grade is maxed, his vision and discipline are both excellent, and his clutch rating means he does not just hit for power — he hits for power in important situations. His OpScore is highest in All-Star settings, which suggests his raw offensive output is the headliner and shines brightest when the game is not yet punishing micro-errors as severely as it does at elite difficulty.

Speed is a non-factor, as expected from a backstop-first player, and the fielding grade is below what you would want from a starting catcher in terms of positional defense. But the offensive profile here is so exceptional — particularly the combination of power, vision, and discipline — that Basallo earns a roster spot in virtually every competitive lineup that needs a catcher. He is one of the best cards in this entire wave.

Chase Burns

Chase Burns

Chase Burns — DiamondOps attribute card

DiamondOps rating (OpScore): All-Star 98.5 · Hall of Fame 100 · Legend 100.9
Quirks: Homebody, Day Player, Break Outlier

The Break Outlier quirk, shared with Skenes, amplifies his secondary stuff and makes him a genuine weapon in games where opponents have had time to scout the rotation. Burns is a clear number-two starter behind a true ace, and his Homebody quirk means he performs at peak efficiency in home games — a useful edge in modes where home-and-away splits matter. If your rotation needed depth behind Skenes, Burns is the obvious complement.
